Eczema and Rash

CLn® for Eczema and Rash

Eczema & Rash – Eczema is often used synonymously with inflammation of the skin and usually refers to a condition known by dermatologists as atopic dermatitis. A more generalized term for eczema is dermatitis. The exact cause is not known although there are abnormalities in the skin’s “barrier” function. Many factors can contribute to the development of eczema including genetics, allergies, dry skin, hot, dry, or cold environments and stress. The symptoms include vesicles, crusts, dryness, cracking, and redness. While most consider eczema to be atopic dermatitis, there are other skin diseases that are sometimes called eczema including contact dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis. Treatment includes symptom relief with use of moisturizers, oral antihistamine medications and corticosteroid creams. As part of a treatment plan, physicians have known that bleach baths can effectively improve eczema signs and symptoms. Additionally, bleach baths can reduce inflammation and microbes on the skin.

Eczema and Rash FAQ

1.) What is eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition caused by inflammation of the skin. Typically, eczema causes skin to become itchy, red, and dry—even cracked and leathery. Eczema can appear on any part of the body. Eczema is a chronic problem for many people. It is most common in children, some of whom outgrow it before adulthood. Atopic dermatitis is the most common of the many types of eczema.

2.) What causes eczema?

Eczema runs in families. Certain genes can make some people have extra-sensitive skin. An overactive immune system is thought to be a factor as well. Also, it's thought that defects in the skin's protective barrier contribute to eczema, by allowing moisture out through the skin and letting germs in. Factors that may trigger eczema include stress, contact with irritating substances, heat and sweat, cold, dry climates, and dry skin.

3.) I see that Sodium Laureth Sulfate is in CLn BodyWash. Is that the same thing as SLS, which I try to avoid?

No, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is very different from SLS, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a common foaming agent in many personal care products but does not fall within CLn Skin Care's standards for skin-friendly ingredients. CLn BodyWash carries the National Eczema Association seal of acceptance based on its skin-friendly ingredients.
